While Wildcats have a lot in common, each campus is unique. Check out this list of the top things our students love about Charlotte, and imagine yourself here next year.
While Charlotte already has a lot to offer, it’s impossible to deny that there is a rejuvenated spirit everywhere you go. Charlotte was among the top 15 fastest-growing cities in the U.S., according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Much of the growth comes from young adults attending university — and that community has brought new life to the city.
If you’re the type who loves spending time in nature, Charlotte is just the place for you. At the WhiteWater Center, Charlotte’s place to be for nature lovers, you can enjoy 1,300 acres and over 50 miles of trails to explore. Whether your interest is rock climbing, whitewater rafting, or just relaxing outdoors, the area is sure to have something for everyone.
Although the heart of most cities is commonly referred to as downtown, Uptown is where the Queen City comes to life. Filled with shopping and restaurants around every corner, Uptown always has something new. At night, take advantage of its vibrant nightlife and entertainment scene.
If you ask anyone from Charlotte what the biggest event each year is in the city, you’re sure to get one answer: Speed Street. Happening each May, NASCAR comes to town to put on an event like no other. In celebration of the May races at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Speed Street is an all-weekend-long event full of live music, good food, and, of course, race cars!
Take an afternoon and relax in Romare Bearden Park. Within walking distance of our campus, enjoy the parks, gardens, and green space without having to venture too far. Throughout the year, the park is home to smaller fairs with several seasonal events.
The Queen City is nothing short of a sports lover’s daydream. Located in the heart of the city you can find BB&T Ballpark, where you can catch a Charlotte Knights game. If basketball is more your game, venture over to the Spectrum Center and root for the Charlotte Hornets. Better yet, round it all off by catching a Charlotte NFL Panthers during the football season.
If the arts are more your style, each April and May the city hosts its annual Charlotte SHOUT! Festival. Here you can find a mix of music, art, and food sure to fill anyone’s soul. The festival is a staple of the city’s cultural landscape, having recently celebrated its 250th anniversary.
In the NoDa district, art galleries come to life! Bright murals fill the walls of many of the area’s outdoor spaces and around every corner, you can find a coffee shop or restaurant to stop and relax. While you’re there you’ll have to check out some of the local art exhibits.
